Three Widows

Three widows lived in the old widow shed
and spoke about friends and husbands long dead.

They wore widow clothes and widow shoes too
and old lady makeup and dyed there hair blue.

Tea in the morning and again tea at three
there was little else for three widows to be.

Then a friend of the three who had moved to the west
came home for a break, came home for a rest.

She was shocked when she saw what her friends had become
with no future to look for their lives mostly done.

She told them to stop it, to get up and go,
to do something new even if they moved slow.

Get some new makeup! Get some new clothes!
Off with the widow shoes, get some new hose!

Go out to a party, go out on a date,
go out and do something before it's too late!

Live life while you have some, don't wait for the end.
Go out and meet someone, go make a new friend.

The widows did listen, they went to the store,
they bought lots of new clothes, they bought so much more.

They went out to parties.  They went out to tea.
They learned there's still living for widows, all three!

They talked to the young folks, they talked to the old,
and learned how to live life all brave and all bold.

And the widows all learned, most important of all,
that when they are down, they should give God a call.

With apologies to Thedore "Dr Seuss" Geisel and fans for this feeble attempt to imitate his style.
